My artisanal tiles are handmade from locally supplied, white stoneware clay that is fired in an electric kiln to approximately 2230 degrees Fahrenheit. They are suitable for indoor or outdoor installation (including kitchens, bathrooms and fireplaces) and recommended for vertical surfaces.
Depending on the design, these tiles are approximately 3/8" to 1/2" thick. The extravagant thickness of these tiles is a hallmark of the historical time-period they were originally inspired by. Please see each individual product description for measurement details.
No two tiles are exactly alike as these tiles are entirely handmade. It is unlikely that handmade tiles are perfectly square, perfectly flat or exactly the same colour (although I do my utmost to achieve this). It is my belief that these imperfections lend themselves to a unique character and old-world charm that is unachievable by machine-made replicas.
Displaying Decorative Tiles
Decorative tiles have a carved notch on the back for easy hanging on your wall with a sturdy nail or flathead screw. Another beautiful option for display is to place individual tiles on a shelf or fireplace mantel by using your favourite tabletop easel. Some of my clients even have their favourite tiles framed.
Installing Decorative Tiles
You may use decorative tiles as accents in an installation mixed with commercially made field tile or handmade field tile. Your local specialty store may be able to provide recommendations and advice on appropriate tile pairings.
Please select a tile installer who has previous experience with high quality, handmade tiles (or similar) and follows the installation guidelines set out by the Tile Council of North America.
Care of Ceramic Tiles
Clean tiles with gentle soap and soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaning cloths and harsh chemicals, especially on surfaces embellished with gold lustre and mother-of-pearl.
